Production Operative

Responsible For
Purpose The purpose of this role is to assist in effective day to day operation and smooth running of the production processes.
Authority and accountability Accountable for assembling finished goods products in line with site standards and customer specifications.
Key duties
Health and Safety
Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner in accordance with instructions and to comply with safety rules/procedures/ regulations and report any unsafe practice or condition
Report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or condition to the line manager
Obtain and use the correct tools/equipment for the work and do not use any that are unsafe or damaged
Report any tolls/equipment issues
Ensure that all guards are securely fixed and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing/equipment provided are used
Not to operate any plant or equipment unless authorised and trained

Follow the company processes and procedures in relation to food safety, allergen control, protective clothing and maintain good manufacturing practices throughout the shift
Follow the clean as you go policy and maintain high standards of personal hygiene
Clean the production, peripheral areas and equipment within those areas in line with site standards and customer specification
Deliver high standards of quality ensuring products are produced in line with site standards and customer specification
Adhere to plan and keep the production downtime to a minimum
Complete product changeovers in a timely manner
Complete and submit documentation accurately and in a timely manner to ensure traceability is maintained
Minimise the environmental impact by following the company waste disposal procedures
Support new product development process
Meet the relevant KPIs and targets assigned by line manager
Assist in day to day operation and provide cover and support to other operatives if necessary

Note: Due to the development and changing nature of production requirements within the business it is essential to be flexible and to carry out occasional or new tasks as required.
Note: In addition to these functions, employees may be assigned to other tasks and will be expected to perform any reasonable requests.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene (desirable)
– ESOL Entry 2 or equivalent (desirable)
Experience – Experience of working in a food manufacturing environment (desirable)
Key Skills and Knowledge – Ability to follow safe working practices and instructions
– Ability to multi-task, prioritise workload
– Attention to details and accuracy
– Ability to work in a team
– Ability to communicate effectively
– Work well under time pressure – Good numerical skills
Personal Qualities – Energetic and enthusiastic

Additional Information

Working Conditions Production Operative will be required to wear protective clothing and would normally work in a cold environment.
Physical Requirements This is a physically demanding role where staff may be required to stand for long periods of time and lift light to medium objects on a regular basis.
